Drawing III - Diagram a Movie and Final Project

This project started as a diagram for the movie The Fellowship of the Ring.  I started with a timeline of the events therein.  As far as the Final Project, I wanted to incorporate a strong drawing element, but also to add graphic design concepts for information design so it would have potential as a portfolio piece.
I therefore expanded the diagram project into showing the Life Cycle of the Ring of Power through the five books in Tolkien's world of Middle-earth.

Comp 1 - Fellowship timeline

This idea was eventually abandoned, due mainly to the fact that a linear diagram would have been far too long to fit in the framing created by the Tree of Gondor symbol.

Comp 2 - more elements explored

Comp 3 - Color Palette analysis, Gate of Moria element explored

Research on history/background of storyline

Comp 4 - more exploration of linear design

Research and layout on key historical references and lineage

More layouts of family/history

Start of final illustration

...and final piece

The final design has a circular structure, conveying the story of the One Ring from its creation to its impending destruction, noting the various ring-bearers along the way.
To this I've added to this the supporting cast and event locales in the borders.  This places the ring into the environment.

The medium is colored pencil on 140# - 22"x40"cold press.

Drawing III - Found Objects

These are the found objects in their environment.  From these images, observations will be drawn in a sketchbook, similar to an artist or scientists' field journal, along with notes and either a short story or poem told in the person of the object.

These photographs are the found objects shot in the studio

This is the journal and some of my observational studies and memoirs of the discoveries.

Drawing III - Walk the Line

This project involves me going to local art stores and walking the aisles (walking the line) and wanting to buy everything in sight (crossing the line).  This is some of the raw footage, edits available soon.

Drawing III - Challenge Transparency

This project incorporates transparency as a medium as well as a visual technique.
The transparency of the water shows the Koi fish underneath the surface.

The foundation underneath our monetary economy is the country working

It is wondered if the Mona Lisa is actually Leonardo himself.  I represented it here as an underdrawing

Underneath the picture is the photographer that composed them

Underneath digital arts is the core of the computer that creates it

The drawings of Pablo Picasso have their fundamental materials beneath.

The materials for the making of Origami

What lies beneath the statue?  The raw rock and the tools that go into its making.
